Their Story
Good hair is personal. Great stylists become family. That's the philosophy behind Wheelhouse Salon, and it's been that way since Courtney Grimes opened the doors in 2014. Located in Birmingham's historic theater district, Wheelhouse has been dedicated from day one to making folks feel confident, inspired, and at home in their skin. The mission has always been to develop relationships with guests so they can better serve them with hair that fits who they are — or who they want to be. That's not marketing language. That's how Courtney actually thinks about this work. Courtney grew up in Pleasant Grove and has loved hair since she was a kid — legend has it she was booking "appointments" in her mom's bathroom in middle school. That passion never faded. It just grew into something bigger: a team of highly trained stylists across Birmingham, Huntsville, and Austin, each one chosen not just for their craft but for their heart. What makes Wheelhouse special in Birmingham is what happens beyond the chair. Owners Courtney and Johnny Grimes have woven their faith and values into the way they lead their people — loving and serving their staff the same way they love and serve their clients. That kind of culture shows up in the work. This is exactly why we love highlighting Wheelhouse on It's Buzzing. Salon clients don't just come back — they send everyone they know. Because finding the right stylist is a gift, and people share gifts.
